Extraordinary Generosity Highlights Wilmette Optimist Annual Raffle

WILMETTE, IL – The Wilmette Optimist Club raised $17,865 for local charities and youth programs in its annual winter holiday season raffle, held December 6, 2011 in conjunction with a dinner at Hackney’s on Lake in Glenview.

A surprise outcome included Ben Klimesh donating $500 of his $2,000 grand prize back to the club, and second-place winner George Pearce giving back $200 of his $500 winnings. Both philanthropists explained their generosity by citing good works done by the Wilmette Optimist Club through its youth-oriented programs.

Ticket prices for the raffle drawing were $100 and featured a grand prize of $2,000, second prize of $500 and ten $200 prizes. Tickets entitled buyers to admission to the annual dinner, which also required a contribution to the Wilmette Optimist Club’s annual Toys for Tots campaign in conjunction with a local branch of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve.

The winter raffle, along with a summer golf outing, are the Club’s primary means of raising funds for scholarships and other youth-focused activities. The Club’s charitable endeavors are detailed at www.wilmetteoptimists.com. There you will also find information about signing up for the Club’s 2012 Golf Outing.
